Deliver the Equal Identities Report to your local MP

The Human Rights Commission has just released a report highlighting the threats to the human rights of the trans community.

This is an unprecedented recognition of the reality of our community, and has come about because thousands of people shared their experiences and their insight into what we need to thrive.

Importantly, the report also provides a clear roadmap of changes needed to ensure our community is safe, celebrated, and has the freedom to be ourselves.

Now, we need to make sure that we put this historic report in front of leaders across the country.

We are calling on trans people, our loved ones, and allies to deliver the Equal Identities report to MP’s offices across the country during the week of 20th-24th April.

How to have a great delivery to your local MP

1 – Register your delivery

Download the executive summary of the Equal identities Report. Print this and deliver it to your MP.

Read the delivery guide

We have a made a guide with everything you need to know to deliver the Equal Identities to your MP. It includes helpful tips, links, and suggested messages.

3 – Try to organise a meeting with your local MP

Calling or emailing ahead means it will be more likely your MP will meet with you.

4 – Take a photo

Take a photo of yourself with the report summary outside the electorate office you are delivering to – or better yet, take a photo with your MP. If there is a sign or a door with the MP’s name on it be sure to include that in the shot.

To get a good photo make sure you are facing towards a light source, that you shoot from the waist up, and that you are smiling at the camera.

4 – Deliver the report

When you walk into the office you will likely be greeted by reception.
Be polite and respectful. Introduce yourself, let them know that you are here to deliver a report, and you are wondering if the MP is present. Let them know you would love to hand it to them personally and chat for a couple of minutes if possible.
You can read more delivery times, including an example delivery script, in the delivery guide.

5 – Email us your photos

As soon as you are done with the meeting send through your best three photos to us at info@transjustice.org.au We plan to use these for the website and social media posts.

6 – Tell us how it went

We’ve developed a feedback survey for you to fill in to let us know how it went and what we could do differently in future.
