All young people deserve the healthcare they need to grow up healthy, happy, and with the freedom to be themselves. That’s why it’s so disgusting that Queensland Health Minister Tim Nicholls has banned gender affirming care for trans youth.

Now he’s running a sham ‘review’ to justify his cruel ban.

It’s not a scientific investigation. It’s a political stunt.

Its only purpose is to manufacture an excuse to permanently ban this life-changing, and often life-saving, health care.

Nicholls only did 21 minutes of consultation before banning vital care for the entire state. Even worse, the review panel has no trans members and no one with clinical experience in gender affirming care.

This is outrageous. Decisions about trans youth health care should centre the expertise, experience and wellbeing of the families, young people, and clinicians that access and administer this care.

This issue affects us all. What’s stopping them from banning abortion, and then holding a ‘review’ into women’s health with no women on the panel?

Tim Nicholls needs to stop playing Trump-style political games with the lives of trans youth.
